To Make the Most Dollars, Make The Most Sense

The world of Internet marketing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it can be a brutally cold one. Believe me, I learned the hard way.

I started trying to make money online when I was 14. Like today, there were a lot of scams out there, and being so young I was especially vulnerable. I wasted hundreds of dollars.

The weird thing was I was a pretty smart kid. I knew the value of a buck. But when I came online I didn’t think that “real world” rules applied.

All too often people come online and lose all sense of reality like I did. I see two types of people who fail online.

The first type of person thinks EVERYTHING online is a big scam. They don’t think they should have to pay for information in e-books or for tools they will need.

If you have to put money into your Internet business, it’s a definite scam. They also may be freebie seekers and try to suck all your time and knowledge away for free.

Don’t get me wrong. You should always have your “Scam Radar” up when you’re online. But let’s think about this logically. Can you startup an offline business without investing any money into it? Even a small family owned business requires some startup capital.

So why would an online business be any different? Starting up an online business is a lot cheaper than starting an offline one, but the same principles apply. This is what economics is all about. People make money by providing a product or service to their customers. It works the same way online.

The second type of person thinks the total opposite. They throw all judgment and common sense out the window and usually dive headfirst into a whirlpool of scams.

They join downline clubs, gifting clubs, “Send $5 to everyone on this list” programs; they usually spam people and end up wasting a whole lot of money. I should know. I used to be a Type 2 when I first started out! I don’t know why, but I just figured the Internet was a magical wonderland where money fell from skies of gold. Then I woke up.

Type 2 people give legitimate online businesses a very bad name. In fact, they are usually the ones who turn people into a Type 1! After seeing all these scams, it’s no wonder some people look at the Internet as one big con.

Type 2 people usually give up eventually and walk away with a bad taste in their mouth. They also end up looking at the Internet as one big scam.

Then there is a third type of person, and hopefully you fall into this category. They see the wonderful potential of the Internet and online business, but also realize that the same universal laws of business apply. They are willing to learn what works, invest time and money in their business, and be patient and persistent.

I realized after awhile that you shouldn’t try to “make money” online. That’s too vague. You should start a legitimate business and treat it as a real one. And that’s what type 3 people do.

Don’t these people make the most sense? They also make the most dollars (Get the pun?! ;)

Make Money on the Internet by Starting Now!

Some of the most successful businesses in existence today started in a box room, bedroom or garage. It isn't how you start out to make money at home that is important.

What really matters is that you had the courage to begin.

With a home based business, you are your own boss, or your own worst enemy.

It is now your responsibility to do things that will build your business, instead of someone else’s. To make money online, you must be online. Basic but true information...

You now have what millions of others do not have, the flexibility to work your own hours.

Although you may think life will become so much better, you will need to put in more hours than normal to start things rolling. Then to keep it rolling...

Sure, making money on the Internet may seem easy but if you don’t focus, or do things correctly, you will soon be looking for another job.

Make sure there is a market for the product or service you are promoting. Be cautious before you invest any money, because things on the Internet are not always as true as they seem.

When you are working at home, you can arrange your work schedule around your family, without worrying about sacrificing either.

Just think about the benefits of working and making money online from home and the freedom of setting your own schedule.

No commuting back and forth in traffic. No dressing up for the workplace.

Another incentive is that if you become successful and you worked with a large group of people who still have a job they hate, your own success would certainly get them interested as well.

“He makes money on the Internet” – “Works at home” – “Doesn’t have to bother getting up early” – “Takes time off when he pleases”

The actions you perform today, will determine your tomorrow.

How’s your tomorrow looking?

The Work From Home Internet Business Is booming On The Net

The work from home revolution on the Internet is in full swing. There has never been a better time or opportunity to make money online working at home in front of your computer. The number of money making opportunities is endless.

With today’s technology it is quite possible to run your entire business online from anywhere in the world using your laptop computer. You no longer need to leave your house to make a living for your family. It can be done from the comfort of your own home. No commute required. No travel time with reduced fuel consumption and maintenance on your vehicles. Best of all you are your own boss.

The amount of people using the internet worldwide continues to increase almost monthly. This bodes well for internet business entrepreneurs and anyone wishing to take advantage of the internet work from home business industry. Global Internet Statistics shows over 800 million people worldwide are now using the internet.

Just do a search for internet business opportunities on Google or your favorite search engine. You’ll find websites such as http://www.kawarthapublishing.com & http://www.bigmoolla.com promoting several top Internet home based business products and services from paid surveys online to network marketing and MLM businesses. If you already have your own website you can even sign up with Google ad sense and make money displaying Google ad words ads on your site. In fact everywhere you look on the net almost every single site you go to is making money from some form of advertising or work from home business opportunity.

The internet is forever changing the global job scene and the world economy with new internet opportunities arriving on the internet every day even as you read this. We can only hope that this will make the world cleaner and a better place to live with less pollution from automobiles and reduced pollution from factories. This in turn could create a backlash on the economy but it has yet to be seen. We all know the reasons behind why we are still using oil and gas rather than clean energy. (It would kill the global economy). Internet business could be just as threatening as electric cars and cars running on fuel cells.

We are indeed in a revolution. The last revolution was called the industrial revolution. This one is called the information revolution. Or what I like to think of it, the work from home revolution.

How To Make Money Online Without A Website

You don't need to have a website to make money on the Internet. Here is a proven strategy to make money online without a website:

Step 1: Find Affiliate Product

Find a product to promote where you make good commission on each sale. Generally, you will get the biggest commissions on digital products. Digital products are defined as something that is downloaded directly to a customer's computer after purchasing, like electronic books or software.

Since there is no extra cost per unit, no inventory and no shipping, the commissions are much greater than on regular "physical" goods. The most common commission on digital products is 50%. The best place to find such products is Clickbank.com.

Sign up as a reseller (also called affiliate) for a product that looks the most appealing to you. After you sign up, you will get a unique affiliate link where you need to send people to purchase the product.

Your affiliate link will have a special code that will tell the product owner that it's you who referred the customer. The affiliate link code will allow your commissions to be tracked correctly and assigned to you.

Step 2: Get Domain Name

Get a domain name to redirect to your affiliate link. A domain name is a .COM name (like yourproduct.com). You can get it for under $9 at GoDaddy.com. GoDaddy.com will allow you to redirect your domain name to your affiliate link at no extra cost.

So when someone types in your .COM domain in their browser, it will go to your affiliate link. The visitor will see the website with the product you promote, and the commissions will be tracked correctly.

The reason why you need a domain name is that it's memorable and it makes you look more trustworthy. Affiliate links tend to be too long and arouse suspicion. For example, most people would rather click on the link bestwidgets.com as opposed to abcwidgets.com?reseller=john

A domain name will make your affiliate link look like it's your own website. So basically, you will have a product to promote and a website to send people to and get commissions - without really having your own website.

Step 3: Drive Traffic

In order to make sales, you need to get visitors to your domain name (which will forward them to the website of the product that you resell). You can pay for advertising and hope that your profit will be greater than advertising cost, or you can use free ways to generate traffic.

The most effective way to get free targeted visitors to your domain name is by writing and submitting articles. You can write short articles on the topic related to the product that you promote. At the end of the article, you include your author bio and your domain name link.

You will then submit your articles to various websites, and allow them to publish your articles as long as your link is included. Your articles will get published in many places on the Internet, and will be advertising your affiliate link at no cost to you whatsoever. People will read your articles, like what you have to say and click on your domain name link ready to buy.

Once you start getting regular sales from your articles, you can go back to step 1 and find another product to promote using this strategy. After a while, you will build up a nice source of Internet income - without even having a web

Pay Per Click and Search Engine Optimization – A Perfect Marriage

Pay per click or search engine optimization, which one should you use? Many view PPC marketing as a colossal waste of money while others disdain search engine optimization. In reality, the two marketing strategies form a perfect marriage.

Pay-Per-Click - PPC

PPC marketing is a love it or hate platform. For the “love it” crowd, PPC marketing is a way to get instant exposure and feedback on site designs. In a matter of minutes, you can start receiving traffic and adjusting your site to convert the traffic at the best rate possible. For those in the “hate it” crowd, bids are to high and one never knows how may of the clicks are fake and worthless.

Search Engine Optimization – SEO

As with PPC, seo marketing has its proponents and detractors. Those who love it look at the free traffic and glorious profitability of a site that converts the traffic at a decent rate. Detractors view seo as an unnecessary waste of time since it can take a year or more to get high rankings, particularly on Google. Detractors also argue that high listings are subject to changes in the search engine ranking process, which means you can lose your rankings.

So, who is right? In truth, both sides make accurate arguments. PPC is expensive and click fraud is a monstrous problem. Seo produces free traffic, but it takes along time to get to the top and rankings are subject to the whims of search engine ranking changes. The truth, of course, is both marketing platforms should be used whenever possible.

Marketing Marriage

Every site is unique, but most should combine PPC and seo marketing as part of an overall internet marketing strategy. When starting out, the PPC campaign is critical for getting immediate traffic and tweaking the site to maximize conversions. At the same time, a seo campaign should be undertaken. As the site rises in search results, the PPC campaign should be fazed out for the relevant high listings.

PPC and seo marketing are not mutually exclusive. When married together as part of an overall marketing strategy, both platforms will deliver the goods.

Share Your Best Life Story With The World

When most people sit down to write a book, they expect it
will take months to complete the job. They envision working
endlessly and toiling over every word until they finally
emerge a year or two later with their finished
"masterpiece."

Well, that may hold true for traditional authors, but the
power of the Internet makes it possible for more innovative
authors to not only create books with compelling content,
but to do it faster and easier than most ever dreamed
possible.

Texas psychologist, Michael Wolf, Ph.D., represents a new
breed of author who sees technology not only as a way to
bypass traditional publishing and distribution channels
that take years to bring books to market, but use the
Internet to actually gather the main content for his book.

Understanding that many authors write in a vacuum about
things that only seem relevant in their own lives, Dr. Wolf
decided to let his audience help him write his books by
sharing their specific stories with him through the
Internet.

His book series, called "One Lesson Learned," is currently
in development at www.onelessonlearned.com.

These encouraging instructional books will contain personal
stories from ordinary people who share an important lesson
learned from their own life-changing experiences. These
books will give both readers and contributors a chance to
connect and make a positive impact on each others' lives.

Unlike the popular "Chicken Soup For the Soul" book series
which often focuses strictly on inspirational stories, the
"One Lesson Learned" series will concentrate specifically
on how one person's lesson learned can impact the lives of
others in specific ways.

As a practicing psychologist, Dr. Wolf figured out what
your grandmother knew all along: the hardest lessons
learned usually represent the best lessons to share with
others so they don't make the same mistakes.

Most people will experience an event or develop a personal
insight that changes their lives forever, though they often
don't realize the impact until years later. Unfortunately,
the jewels of wisdom contained in those stories usually
never extend beyond the individuals involved.

Dr. Wolf hopes to preserve this knowledge through his "One
Lesson Learned" book series.

His inspiration comes mainly through his own 20 years of
helping people make positive changes in their own lives by
discovering and using their own life lessons. He also
recognized the healing power of sharing these lessons with
others, not only for the reader, but also for the
storyteller.

Gathering content through the Internet makes it possible
for individuals from all walks of life around the world to
share their stories and make a positive difference in the
lives of others.

In effect, Dr. Wolf has created a virtual campfire around
which we can all sit and gain hard-won knowledge from each
other, much the same way our ancestors did before life got
so complicated.

Mining For Gold With The Best Affiliate Programs And Hitting

Colin McDougall tinkered around with affiliate programs earning a few dollars, nothing much to write home about, even had his own e-commerce site, known as the man’s mall. In theory that site was supposed to offer all sorts of gadgets for guys. Colin created the site with the concept “build it they will come” but in reality no one did. Like so many dot.com ventures, it was a huge disappointment, lots of hard work and no pay off.

Colin says, “The man’s mall failed because I started the venture blindly, I didn’t have a clue how the search engines worked or how to make money with affiliate programs. Without an action plan and a map on how to get the gold it was all pointless. But not anymore, I hit the internet gold mine, a virtual moneymaking machine.”

Read on to learn the facts about affiliate marketing and how Colin went from failing on the Internet to making serious money with affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is paying off for retailers

2003 online sales are bucking the retail trend. With traditional retail sales down, retailers are forced to do more with less. They’ve shifted budgets away from expensive portal deals to performance-based affiliate marketing and search engine marketing and it’s paying off. (Source: Forrester Research)

It’s no surprise that traditional advertisers such as American Express, National Geographic, Toshiba and even Disney are flocking to the emerging affiliate marketing model. Advertisers have a very low risk with affiliate marketing; they simply pay a commission for actual sales. No sales, no commission.

Affiliates love it too

Affiliates who understand the affiliate marketing business are earning huge incomes, even those who are doing it as a hobby, in many cases, are earning a few hundred to a few thousand extra dollars each month.

Jeff Pullen, President of Commission Junction, a third party provider of infrastructure and tracking told the crowd at a recent conference held in Santa Barbara that, “Commissions are up 80% over the previous year”. According to the Affiliate Summit, held in early November 2003 in New York City, affiliate marketing is already a $14 billion industry. (Source: Marketing Sherpa)

Online shopping is booming – the future is bright

Affiliate marketing works because the pay for performance model makes sense. Plus, people are flocking to the Internet in droves to shop online. According to Forrester Research, a Massachusetts-based research firm, nationally online sales are expected to total $96 billion this year and climb to $229 billion by 2008.

Affiliate marketing in a nutshell

An affiliate program is a business relationship where one website owner (a “merchant”) agrees to pay another website owner (an “affiliate”) a commission simply for referring customers.

Merchants typically manage their affiliate program by joining a commission network such as Commission Junction or LinkShare who provide third-party tracking and infrastructure or by purchasing and installing specialized tracking software on their own server.

See Commission Junction and LinkShare.com for a list of merchants who are looking for affiliates to promote their products and services.

How Colin got involved with affiliate marketing

Colin says: “I found the treasure map; the Affiliate Marketers Handbook written by James Martell,” an entrepreneur and successful affiliate marketer. The first time Colin read the Affiliate Marketers Handbook he mentions, that it was like looking at the horizon through binoculars; he could see where he was headed. The second time reading the book Colin, it was like looking at a road map and seeing how to reach the riches on the horizon.

Colin says, “With the book, you learn how to get organized, plan the site, run the business, and focus on the riches along the horizon.”

Colin learned firsthand, with the man’s mall, that without understanding the search engines, your business is dead in the water. The “build it they will come” mind set, just doesn’t cut it.

As Colin says: “The book’s system for using keywords really makes sense, after my prior experience it’s like this light bulb went off…so that’s how I’m going to attract visitors and making money. In my old business, I was set up to fail, with the handbook I’m set up to win.”

Got Dot: How did you go from failing at the Internet to make money?

Colin explains, “By reading James’ handbook. His book is real, it’s not the stuff of Internet legends, but it’s an honest, to goodness road map. James really shares what works. I’ve followed his 8-step system™ and now have a bigger house, a bigger car and financial independence.

At first, I was amazed at how much the book gives away, but that’s James. He really wants everybody to succeed, he’s got things all laid out in his book. If you follow it the money’s there, it’s up to the reader to go for the gold.”

Got Dot: What was it like getting started?

Colin says, “In the beginning I was skeptical, making money with affiliate marketing, just seemed unreal. After attending James’ original class in Vancouver, at the prodding of a friend Chuck Anderson, and actually meeting with other people, earning lots of money with affiliate marketing, the whole process really resonated. I knew I could do it, if they could.”

Got Dot: Why was that so hard to grasp?

Colin: “As a system tech I was working 50% harder for a measly 5% raise, all of $250/month. It was awful. In the class all these people were making a lot more money than me, working just a few hours a day. What a wake up call. I felt like a dummy slaving away at 60 hours a week, with practically nothing to show for it.”

Colin adds, “The hard part for me was getting over my past, removing the skepticism, and just running. My disbelief held me back four months. So I started off small spending one hour a day doing affiliate marketing.

The beginning search engine traffic and commission checks…just blew me away, talk about a real eye-opener. Nothing like numbers to get a techie excited.”

Got Dot: What’s the money like?

Colin: “When I first started I earned $400 a month, nearly double my raise as a system tech. By the end of the year I hoped to make $5k a month (my system tech salary). I hit that mark in six months. Within 9 months I earned $120K. The day job is now history. The money’s astounding, it just keeps growing.”

Got Dot: What is your product niche?

Colin says, “In the beginning, I went after the big paycheck, like credit cards. My newer sites feature things I want to learn more about or hobbies.”

Colin follows the same methods for web site construction developed by James Martell. These principals are incorporated into Colin’s successful sites featuring: mortgage loans, furniture slip covers and credit card applications.

Got Dot: What is a typical day like?

Colin says, “Its ideal. How many fathers can say they have time to play Barbie’s with their daughter? Everyday I work for two hours and spend an afternoon in the park with the family, then another hour or two of work and its dinner time, what a day!”

Got Dot: What tips do have for someone starting out?

Colin says: “Buy the Affiliate Marketers Handbook, follow it step-by-step. Don’t jump ahead. Devote one hour a day to affiliate marketing, when you get home from work. Make the sacrifice. The short term pain is worth the long term gain. Don’t settle for fool’s gold, searching through the “best affiliate programs”, find the real gold, James Martell’s 8-step system™, it’s within your grasp. Go for the gold.”

Colin McDougall followed a simple 8-step-system™ for affiliate marketing created by James Martell, entrepreneur, successful affiliate marketer, and developer of over 70 specialty shopping sites with topics that range from motorized scooters to treadmill comparisons; and also educates people who want to start a homebased business using affiliate programs and the Internet!

Internet Affiliate Programs: The Fundamentals of Creating In

Affiliate programs uses a simple concept for you to create an income online: Earn commissions when you make a sale. You don't need to worry about the costs for setting up the business nor advertising. It costs zero! When we think of successful online businesses, websites such as: Amazon.com (biggest online bookstore), eBay.com (largest auction website), Yahoo.com (most well-known search engine) usually spring into mind. On the contrary, you probably have heard of dot-com companies turned dot-bombs. So you think, "How do I make money on the internet when I don't have money to advertise like those big guys such as Amazon.com or Yahoo.com?"

. Well, you don't need money to make money! There are several ways to make money through the internet, and one of them is through affiliate programs. Best of all, it costs nothing to sign up!

"What are affiliate programs? Isn't it just another get-rich quick plot or some hocus-pocus that's all a scam?"

Affiliate programs (also known as referral/associate programs) are legitimate and not get-rich-quick scams. It's a simple concept: Earn commission for each sale you make. As a matter of fact, even big guys like Amazon.com launched affiliate programs to fuel their sales and to increase their brand, hence that further proves my point that affiliate programs aren't scams.

How Affiliate Programs Work.

Using Amazon.com as an example, here's an illustration on how affiliate programs work.

An affiliate (let's call her 'Lily') owns a website about movie-making, so she chose a few books related to her website including the best-seller "How to Write a Hollywood Movie Script in 5 minutes!"

Lily then puts unique links to each of these books on her website that enables Amazon to identify the visitor she sends. One of Lily's visitors was so impressed by Lily's review on the book "How to Write a Hollywood Movie Script in 5 minutes!" that she wanted to buy it immediately, the visitor then saw "Buy it now on Amazon.com!".. CLICK!

The visitor enters the Amazon site, Amazon identifies this visitor is from Lily. The visitor then checks out with the book and pays using credit card. Lily is paid a commission on that sale!

Affiliate Programs vs. Selling Your Own Products on the Web

Sure enough as a web merchant, you get 100% of the profits made. But you will have to fuss with start-up costs, advertising, marketing, shipping, credit-card processing, products/ services to maintain, customer services, customer complaints, webhosting , accounting, staff training.

Phew! That's a lot work! But.

As an affiliate, you don't need your own products to sell; you don't need to incur the costs: Your start-up cost is zero; and you don't have to deal with the customers' orders or accounting or all the above because the merchant will handle all these for you. In some affiliate programs, you can also recruit and train sub-affiliates under you. Your training pays off when your sub-affiliate gets a sale, because you earn 'training commission' too. I'll get more in-depth about this later in the article.

"But I'm not a computer or internet-savvy person! I don't have a website too!"

Don't worry! An effective affiliate finds thousands of ideas to sell online, or offline! You can advertise locally in newspapers, in articles you write, recommend it to friends, notice boards, etc. There are no limits.

"Great! How do I start?"

As easy as it sounds, I'm sad to say that it's not a piece of cake if you plan to sit there and wait for the cash to come to you. In the affiliate business, it follows the 80-20 rule - 80% of the benefit is only achieved by 20% of the affiliates. So if you want to get rich quick, affiliate program isn't for you. but if you want to be one of the 20% affiliates who get 80% of the benefit. read on.

First of all, ask yourself why you want to start an affiliate business on the internet.

"Um. to earn some cash and buy things I want"

No, I want you to be as specific as possible.

For example, "I want to increase my income so that I can afford a sports car and have the ultimate sense of pride when I drive into the yard of my friends who said that I will never succeed in making money on the internet! I want my friends to be envious; I want to prove them wrong!"

When you know what you want and the more specific you get, the stronger your commitment, determination and persistence to succeed will be.

I know it sounds really corny, but it is a simple rule that the 80% affiliates don't follow!

Secondly, you must.

Choose a Good Affiliate Program

There are many affiliate programs out there but you need to focus on the ones that work for you. I suggest a few good criteria to look for in affiliate programs:

1) High-value products/services

When I said 'value', I don't mean the price tag. Let's say, you are an affiliate for 2 companies which are in similar industries, both offering 30% commission. One sells its product for $50 and the other for $150. So you think,

"Hmmm. When I make a sale, I get more commission from company no.2 ($45) than company no.1 ($15). Wow!"

Although it is simple logic, ask yourself this question first, "will I buy this $150 product when I know there are cheaper ones out there?"

Think like your customer, question yourself "Am I paying my money's worth on this product?", "Does the company offer great value for a dollar?"

If you answer 'no' for both these questions, you'll know that the company will eventually die.

2) High Affiliate and Customer Support

One of the key areas to look for when choosing a good affiliate program is their support system. A company that values its customers and affiliates is a company that grows. The company must be able to provide as many resources for their affiliates to promote their products, e.g. training, newsletters, banners, free stuff, etc.

Furthermore, it should also listen to its customers' suggestions, complaints and be able to keep their customers happy. Remember, happy customers mean long-lasting company as happy customers will spread the good word of the company and its products, which means there will be more business opportunities for you!

3) Team Sales

There are some affiliate programs that allow you to recruit sub-affiliates under you. When your sub-affiliates perform well, you are also rewarded with a 'coaching' commission for their sales because it is your duty as a team leader to coach your sub-affiliates. Although most affiliate programs on the internet doesn't support team-building, it is preferable that you choose one that does. The reason is simply:

T.E.A.M = Together Everyone Achieves More

Sure enough, you can do the whole affiliate business by being a lone ranger, but you are limiting your own capacity to earn more. Moreover, the results are two-fold: you will enjoy a second stream of income (unless you plan to do it full-time) AND the satisfactions of helping others to earn another source of income too!

4) Repeat Sales Potential

Other than achieving one-time sales, it is recommended if the affiliate program entitles you to lifetime customers, which means 'once your customer, always your customer!'

A company with a good sales structure will retain their customers and encourage repeat sales. Thus, you get commissions for repeat sales too.

5) Reputable and Reliable Company

Check the company's history on the newsgroup or http://groups.google.com, and find out whether it's well-established. Are their customers satisfied? Are the affiliates happy? Does the company keep changing the affiliate policy? I'm sure no one wants their affiliate business suddenly gone because the merchant company failed!

An Ideal Affiliate Program

Do Marketers Really Need RSS?

The recent Forrester Research study, which claims that only 2% of online households in North America use RSS, took the internet marketing world by storm. Does this data really mean that marketers can still afford to ignore this channel?

Soon after the Forrrester study became public, I received a press enquiery asking whether marketers should be interested in RSS now that so few online adults use it.

Is this the correct question to ask? Let’s take a look at the bigger picture …

1. THE FORRESTER STUDY VALIDITY

The Forrester study is just one of those available and cannot be considered as the only relevant study, although it was conducted on a sample of 68,000 households.

Jupiter Research estimates RSS penetration at 12% of the American online population, while the latest report from PEW shows that 9% of the American online population has a good idea of what RSS is. An October 2004 PEW study actually estimated RSS penetration at 5%.

BLOG…PING…OPT-IN…SIG FILE…EZINE!

In the beginning…

I recently started my own “money-making, home business” which I signed up to with the understanding that I was going to earn money for doing nothing. Others (affiliates) were going to pay me commission for referring new sign-ups to their sites. This sounded like a fantastic opportunity to make lots of money without really selling anything. No stocks holding, postage etc.

My signup included (among other items) a guide which covers 30 days. I also had to sign-up to 5 online marketing sites (you receive the enrolment fee back in no time) and join a web-hosting company.

Massive amounts of information are fed to you but in an absorbable manner. It was very exiting. I would liken this information to reading a suspense novel…can’t wait to see what happens next!

Anyway this article is not meant to be about that…it’s meant to cover some of the terminology and their definitions, some of which I had never heard before.

AdSense

AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant ads on their website's content pages and earn money. Because the ads are related to what your visitors are looking for on your site — or matched to the characteristics and interests of the visitors your content attracts — you'll finally have a way to both monetise and enhance your content pages.
It's also a way for website publishers to provide web and site search to their visitors, and to earn money by displaying ads on the search results pages.

Adwords

With AdWords you create your own ads, choose keywords to help us match your ads to your audience and pay only when someone clicks on them.

Affiliate

A person, organization, or establishment associated with another as a subordinate, subsidiary, or member: network affiliates.

Auto-Responder

This is a clever marketing tool. It automates your emails and follows-up on potential clients after they have signed up to your newsletter etc.

Blog

1. Download the Wordpress blogging software, which is available for free at www.wordpress.com . An alternative is to go with blogger.com. I have posted instructions for setting up a Blogger blog at your own server in this PDF file:
http://www.pluginprofitstraining.com/blogsetup.pdf

2. Remember that good content is always at the heart of a progressive online traffic stream. People are always looking for information, and if you will give them that, they would read what you have to offer. Dedicate your blog to the subject of your main website. Publish informative entries that would hook your readers and make them come back for updates. In between purely educational entries, strategically include a link to your site by suggesting their importance to your readers.

3. Using the above mentioned strategy, you could also include your affiliate links to pre-sell your affiliate products. The more traffic you drive to your affiliate merchant’s site or sales page, the more chances you will have of effectuating a successful sale and bigger commissions.

4. Links from blogs are unilateral, meaning, they are one way links to your websites. The more traffic a unilateral link generates, the more it becomes prominent in online searches. Avoid reciprocal links at all costs! Do not include a link to your blog from your website. Search engines abhor reciprocal linking.

5. 80% of your traffic will come from the search engines. You have to tweak your blog to attract the attention of the search engine spiders. Now, blogs are already search engine friendly. However, there is a very big possibility that you would be competing with other blogs on the same subject. You have to make sure that once you upload your blog, it is able to outperform its competitors in the search engine rankings.

One way you can do this is by using the title of your post to match the keyword phrases you are targeting, plus put a sprinkling of your keyword phrase in the post itself. I am doing this with great results.

6. Check your blog offline. It should be as readable and as navigable as possible for your prospective readers. Make appropriate adjustments if necessary.

7. Upload your blog to a reliable server that has enough bandwidth to accommodate many viewers.

8. Constantly update your blog. Search engines love regularly updated content, so publishing new entries will greatly increase your blog’s page rank, and consequently, your main website’s traffic.

9. Accepting links from other related blogs will also bring to your site some traffic from sources other then search engines. The way that a blog is designed fosters the building of a community of blog sites, and this will provide for an added stream of visitors for you.

10. You could also decide to enroll your blog site in the Google AdSense advertising program. This will give you an additional income stream. We will discuss this in future articles.

Blogs are excellent promotional tools for your existing business. Use them well and you will harvest the rewards in a matter of weeks.
